Fans and Air Pollution Control for Iron and Non-ferrous Foundries

Foundries emit fume at the furnace, sand dust at the shakeout and knock-out, and organic vapour from binders in the moulding and core shop.

The process

Foundries emit fume at the furnace, sand dust at the shakeout and knock-out, and organic vapour from binders in the moulding and core shop. Each goes to its own collector, with adsorption on activated carbon for the vapour and bag filters for the dust.

The gas

Fume from arc, induction or reverberatory furnaces, hot and carrying fine metallic oxide dust. Temperature is handled by dilution air or a cooler ahead of the filter, and the fan sits on the clean side where possible.

Fans in this process

DutyWhat it does hereType usually selected
Fume Exhaust SystemHoods, ducting and an exhaust fan that capture fume at source and deliver it to a scrubber, bag filter or stack.Backward inclined and radial tipped
Dust Collector FanThe fan behind a bag filter, cyclone or multiclone on a dust extraction system.Backward inclined and radial tipped
Bag Filter FanPulls the process gas through the filter bags and discharges the cleaned gas to the stack.Backward curved and radial tipped
Ventilation FanMoves air through a plant or building for fresh air supply, heat removal and fume dilution where the system is ducted.Backward inclined and forward curved
Roof ExtractorAn axial fan in a weatherproof cowl mounted on an inclined or flat roof, exhausting hot air from the ridge of a factory shed..Axial
Combustion Air BlowerFeeds a burner with air at the pressure the burner register needs.Backward curved and radial tipped
