The process
Safety valve outlets, start-up vents and blow-down lines release steam or gas at high velocity. Vent silencers reduce the noise at the discharge, and knock-out drums separate liquid from the vapour before the flare.
The gas
Clean ambient air at site temperature. Density is close to standard and the fan is selected on efficiency and noise with no allowance for dust or corrosion.
Fans in this process
| Duty | What it does here | Type usually selected |
|---|---|---|
| Vent Silencer | Cuts the noise from steam or gas expanding from high pressure to atmosphere at safety valve outlets, start-up vents and blow-down lines.. | Silencer |
| Fan Silencer | An absorptive silencer at the fan inlet, outlet or in the duct, cutting fan noise with minimum pressure loss.. | Silencer |
| Mist Eliminator | Separates entrained liquid droplets from a vapour or gas stream, ahead of a compressor, a fan or a stack.. | Demister Knockdown Vessel |
